Executive Summary

The S.O.N.S. Foundation Youth Mentoring Program, based in Greensboro, North Carolina, is a nonprofit organization committed to empowering youth through leadership development, community service, and hands-on education in gardening and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Our mission is to instill the values of servant leadership, ensuring young individuals (ages 7-17) gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence to become proactive leaders and changemakers in their communities.

Our core programs are designed to nurture personal growth, social responsibility, and career readiness, integrating three key pillars:

1. Leadership & Mentorship – Through structured mentorship and leadership training, youth develop critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills to lead with integrity.
2. Gardening & Sustainability – Hands-on agricultural education teaches self-sufficiency, environmental stewardship, and community service, with produce donated to local food banks, seniors, and families in need.
3. STEM Education – Engaging youth in technology-driven learning experiences, bridging the gap between classroom knowledge and real-world applications in innovation and sustainability.

A cornerstone of our mission is Serving with a Purpose (SWAP)—a dynamic initiative that encourages youth to give back through meaningful community service projects. 

This includes:

• Supporting Seniors – Providing fresh, homegrown produce and offering companionship to elderly community members to combat food insecurity and social isolation.
• Community Outreach – Engaging in projects that beautify neighborhoods, assist local nonprofits, and support underserved families.
• Intergenerational Learning – Partnering with seniors to exchange skills, wisdom, and life experiences, fostering mutual learning and connection across generations.
