Join us for a fun and meaningful afternoon at the S.O.N.S Service With A Purpose (SWAP) Plarn Roll Party! This hands-on community event brings people together to transform everyday plastic bags into plarn that will later be used to create sleeping mats for individuals experiencing homelessness.
Enjoy music, light snacks, and a relaxed atmosphere while learning a simple skill that turns waste into something useful and compassionate.
Location:
1926 Wheatfield Court
Greensboro, NC 27405
Participants will work together to turn plastic bags into plarn through a few simple steps:
Lay the plastic bag flat, tuck in the side seams, and smooth it out so it is easy to cut.
Cut off the handles and the bottom seam, leaving a clean plastic tube.
Cut the remaining tube into 2–3 inch wide strips. Each strip will form a loop.
Take two loops and pull one halfway through the other. Pull the ends through to create a simple knot. Continue joining loops until you have a long strand of plarn.
Wind the plarn strand into balls so it is ready for crocheting into sleeping mats.
By repurposing plastic bags into plarn, we reduce plastic waste while creating materials that can be used to craft durable sleeping mats for those in need. Every roll of plarn contributes to a larger effort to support our community through service with a purpose.
